What does it mean to forgive? Most people think that in order to forgive, it means that you condone a certain behavior - that you are ok with the way you were treated or the way someone spoke to you. But forgiveness is all about releasing and letting go of negativity - not allowing it to take up any more space in your mind. By letting it go , you free up space for the positive things in your life.
The past is represented by guilt. The future is represented by worry. When we forgive, we release ourselves from the guilt of the past. It is so important (yet not entirely easy) to forgive. Whether you are forgiving others who have hurt you or forgiving yourself for choices you have made, words you have used that hurt others or if you are simply forgiving that person who cut you off on the freeway this morning - you are releasing negativity and even guilt.
We can't change the past. We can only accept it, take the lessons we learned and forgive all who need to be forgiven.
So, today, try to start the process of forgiving in order to release and let go of negativity. You will feel so much better!
